A message from: the Ambassador of France to Ireland

I am delighted to support the Cork French Film Festival, which is the longest running French Film Festival in Ireland.

For 33 years, Alliance Française de Cork has brought Francophone cinema to the many Francophiles and cinephiles in the region and beyond. Culture is at the heart of the friendship between France and Ireland and the Cork French Film Festival plays an important role in promoting cultural exchange between Ireland and France, its closest EU neighbour.

This year’s fantastic programme reflects the diversity of French-language cinema and will appeal

to different audiences. The 33rd edition is eclectic, representing both new cinematic voices and established Francophone directors, and it gives an insight into contemporary French society as well as, in the opening film, Délicieux, to the delights of the past.

I am pleased to see the tribute to the brilliant Jean-Louis Trintignant. The recently deceased actor is an icon of French cinema and, in an extensive career, some of his greatest work was with Costa- Gavras. Both The Sleeping Car Murders and the Academy-award winning Z screen at this year’s festival.

I wish to congratulate Josselin Le Gall, Honorary Consul of France in Cork, and Valérie David- McGonnell, Alliance Française de Cork President, and the whole team for their excellent work on the Cork French Film Festival.

Enjoy the festival!

Vive le cinéma! Vive l’amitié franco-irlandaise!

H.E. Vincent Guérend, Ambassador of France to Ireland
