We present a tribute to the great French actor and director Michel Blanc, who died in October 2024.

“He made us cry with laughter and moved us to tears. A monument of French cinema, Michel Blanc has gone” President Emmanuel Macron

Saturday March 8th at 1.40pm

Mr. Hire
Patrice Leconte / France / 1989 / 81 mins
Cast: Michel Blanc, Sandrine Bonnaire, Marie Gaydu

Monsieur Hire (Blanc), the prime suspect in the murder of a young girl, spends much of his time secretly gazing from his window at Alice, a beautiful 22-year-old blonde who lives alone in the apartment opposite. His solitude, however, is broken when Alice, having glimpsed his face in the light of a storm, visits him in his room and bluntly asks why he spies on her.

“In this oddly touching, enigmatic adaptation of Georges Simenon’s novel, Leconte focuses less on the murder mystery than on the unexpectedly tender relationship that develops between watcher and watched, gently manipulating audience sympathies to create a poignant study of amour fou.” Time Out
