Date & Time: Thursday March 6th at 8:30pm

Details: Emmanuel Courcol / France / 2024 / 103 mins

Starring: Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Lottin, Sarah Suco

Thibaut is an internationally renowned conductor who travels the world. When he learns he was adopted, he discovers the existence of a younger brother, Jimmy, who works in a school cafeteria and plays the trombone in a small marching band. Everything seems to set them apart, except their love of music. Sensing his brother’s exceptional talent, Thibaut decides to remedy the injustice of fate. Jimmy begins to dream of a different life…

“The Marching Band is an old-fashioned tearjerker that asks large questions about identity and destiny through music. How choices are made for us in childhood are given an unusually sharp contrast here, combined with three excellent lead performances and the love of music at the story’s centre… making this an excellent depiction of talent and community.” Next Best Picture

Audience Award, San Sebastian Film Festival 2024

Mr. Hire
Patrice Leconte / France / 1989 / 81 mins
Cast: Michel Blanc, Sandrine Bonnaire, Marie Gaydu

Monsieur Hire (Blanc), the prime suspect in the murder of a young girl, spends much of his time secretly gazing from his window at Alice, a beautiful 22-year-old blonde who lives alone in the apartment opposite. His solitude, however, is broken when Alice, having glimpsed his face in the light of a storm, visits him in his room and bluntly asks why he spies on her.

“In this oddly touching, enigmatic adaptation of Georges Simenon’s novel, Leconte focuses less on the murder mystery than on the unexpectedly tender relationship that develops between watcher and watched, gently manipulating audience sympathies to create a poignant study of amour fou.” Time Out

Details: Mati Diop / France, Senegal, Benin / 2024 / 68 mins / Documentary

Dahomey is a poetic and immersive work of art that delves into real perspectives on far-reaching issues surrounding appropriation, self-determination and restitution. Set in November 2021, the documentary charts 26 royal treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey that are due to leave Paris and return to their country of origin: the present-day Republic of Benin. Using multiple perspectives Diop questions how these artifacts should be received in a country that has reinvented itself in their absence. Dahomey is an affecting though altogether singular conversation piece that is as spellbinding as it is essential.
